I help teams tackle fuzzy challenges through tailormade workshops.
Having organised over 150 workshops, I know that for creativity to thrive, the first concern is to realise a trusting environment. Only then will participants freely bounce early ideas without fear of judgement. For good ideas to emerge we need not rely on chance, they can be forced through carefully chosen processes, methods and techniques. I tease participants out of their post-it-writing-comfort zone and help them make the step towards concrete and experientiable propositions.
I help teams gain fresh perspectives through UX methods and tools.
With the surge of interest in lean and agile, it is striking how intertwined innovation and user centred design have become. The business question does this proposition create value? and the UCD question does the user benefit from this proposition? are seen as two sides of the same coin. Having corporate ánd startup experience, I can help you gain fresh perspectives using ethnographic videos, personas, customer journeys, service-blueprints, risk-impact mappings, business model canvases and many others.
I help clients turn concepts into user testable prototypes.
Often with lean and agile the challenge is to create prototypes that can be tested with users without being sucked down a technological rabbit hole. I advise to create experience prototypes in which the focus is firmly on the user experience, rather than technology. I have realized experience prototypes in many different ways, including wizard of oz, dialing down fidelity and hiding complexity.
I help clients prototype novel solutions by modelling more than skin deep.
Rqther than designing the envelope only, I propose component layouts and help get the product package as elegant as possible. I have prepared models for hand-over to professional modelmakers and had dozens of 3D prints made at Shapeways and Materialise.
I help clients make interactive demos using 2D and 3D graphics programming.
When you need true interactivity rather than screen jumps and pre-cooked animations, Figma, Sketch, Invision and the like simply do not cut it. Over the years, I have built many truly interactive demonstrators, clocking up thousands of hours of programming in various development environments (Processing, Unity3D, Grasshopper, XCode) and languages (C, Objective C, C#, Swift, Python). My specialty is graphics programming, be it 2D or 3D.
I help clients explore the value of AR through creating proof of concepts.
Blending virtual information with reality is one of the most exciting frontiers. Contrary to popular belief, mixed reality comes in many forms other than head-mounted displays. I have considerable hands-on experience with AR but foremost, I can help clients to see through the hype and t0 focus on the user experience: what works for the user and what can and cannot be done with the current state of technology?
I help clients identify protectable ideas.
Over the years I learnt to spot protectable design and (co-)authored more than twenty patents. Good design cannot always be protected and a patent is no guarantee for good design so it takes special effort to create design relevant IP. My focus is on application IP: protecting innovative ways of applying technology rather than the technology itself.
I help universities with teaching and research projects.
Before I started in industry, I worked in design academia for thirteen years. I taught bachelors, masters and PhD students at TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, Syddansk University and Brunel . In the past few years, I have also created blended learning modules for online universities such as LOI and NCOI. Having written many academic papers, I can also assist as a ghost writer, should you need an extra pair of hands.
